Confusion and tension have gripped Umuezikoha Uba, Umuaka, following a dramatic turn of events surrounding a prolonged family dispute over the burial of a deceased man.
According to information gathered by Umuaka News24, the crisis stems from a long-standing disagreement within the family of the deceased, who had two wives. Sources say the body had remained in the mortuary for over two years due to unresolved arguments about who should take responsibility for the burial.
It was alleged that the son of the second wife had possession of the mortuary tally, which he reportedly withheld despite repeated appeals from other family members to release it so burial arrangements could proceed.
In a shocking development, the said son allegedly returned on the night of March 20, 2026, accompanied by individuals believed to be soldiers, and proceeded to carry out a secret burial of the deceased.
However, the situation escalated further the following morning when the family’s elder brother, said to have arrived from Mozambique, alongside their elder sister, a police officer, came to the scene with law enforcement officers. The burial was reportedly reversed as the corpse was exhumed, the casket set ablaze, and the body taken back to the mortuary.
The incident has sparked widespread concern in the community, with residents describing the situation as deeply troubling and calling for calm as well as proper resolution through legal and traditional channels.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
This is a developing story.
