The Umuaka Community Hospital has been a subject of concern for the Umuaka people, particularly regarding its ownership and upkeep. The Amiyi community had proposed a plan to transform the hospital, but a year later, the facility remains in a state of disrepair. Despite the initial promise, it appears that Amiyi’s plans for the hospital have not come to fruition and they have refused to hand over the hospital to Umuaka Ebe Iri the original owners and builders of the facility.
The hospital’s condition has raised questions about Amiyi’s capability to transform the facility. The Umuaka community diaspora is calling for Amiyi-Akah to hand over the hospital to its rightful owners citing its significance as a communal property and a symbol of Umuaka’s history and heritage. Akalites worldwide are urging that the hospital be managed by Umuaka people, for Umuaka people.
The hospital’s stagnation has sparked outrage among Umuaka residents, who are in urgent need of a good hospital. As the community continues to suffer the call for Amiyi-Akah to relinquish control of the hospital grows louder.
In a bold move, the Umuaka community worldwide is now calling on the Government of Imo State to take over the hospital and transform it into a world-class healthcare facility. The community is willing to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government, ensuring that the hospital’s management and operations are aligned with the interests of the Umuaka people.
The future of the Umuaka Community Hospital hangs in the balance and it remains to be seen what steps will be taken to address the concerns of the Umuaka people.
