In a recent statement, High Chief Eddy Ikwubuo (Agunachemba Njaba) shed light on his decision to run for the councillorship position in Umuaka Ward 1. According to Ikwubuo, his candidacy is driven by a desire to serve as a voice for accountability and effective representation at the local government level.

Speaking through the Umuaka Peoples Assembly WhatsApp group, Ikwubuo stressed that his decision wasn’t driven by personal political ambition or financial gain. He expressed concerns over the alleged influence of external forces on current councillors, stating that many are being “pocketed” by interests within the Njaba local government, which has consistently failed to deliver on its mandate.

Ikwubuo emphasized the need for leaders who are accountable to the people and highlighted a pervasive “pull him down syndrome” within the community, which he believes hinders progress. He urged residents to be discerning in their choice of leaders, warning against electing individuals without the vision or capacity to deliver essential services. “We cannot complain about poor governance if we continue to support those who lack the ability to serve,” he remarked.

Citing Honourable Chuma Nnaji as an inspiration, Ikwubuo framed his political journey as one focused on serving the community’s needs. “Like Honourable Nnaji, I am not focused on the title or the position but on how I can uplift our community and ensure our people’s needs are met,” he said.
