Last week in Umuokpuruofor village Amakor Umuaka, a harrowing incident turned into a powerful testimony of divine intervention and human courage. Mr.Nnadozie Péter Ogbonna, a beloved resident, narrowly escaped death after a terrifying fall into a 25-ft pit toilet, where he was stranded amidst human feces, an ordeal that left him with a broken leg but an unshakable faith.

On that fateful day, Nnadozie accidentally slipped into the deep, dark confines of the pit toilet. Trapped 25 feet below ground and surrounded by suffocating waste, he shouted for help for nearly two hours, his voice echoing in the horrific space. With a broken leg and unable to climb out, hope seemed fleeting until a passerby neighbor Okechukwu, described by Nnadozie as “God-sent,” heard his desperate cries.

In an act of extraordinary bravery, the neighbor alerted community people and someone volunteered to descend into the pit, with bamboo tree cus ladders couldn’t reach there,a rope and determination. Tying the rope securely around Nnadozie’s waist, the rescuer, with the help of others, pulled him to safety.
The rescue was nothing short of miraculous, a testament to the power of community and divine timing.

Now recovering from his injuries, Nnadozie has turned his near-death experience into a clarion call for change. In his heartfelt testimony, he passionately discourages the continued use of pit toilets, highlighting their dangers. “I was given a second chance at life,” he shared. “Pit toilets are a silent threat to our safety. We must embrace safer alternatives to protect our families and communities.”

Nnadozie’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience, faith, and the urgent need for improved sanitation. His gratitude to his rescuer and his renewed purpose inspire all who hear his testimony. Let his experience be a catalyst for action, ensuring no one else faces such a preventable ordeal.
