Innocent Anyadike, a 70-year-old man from Ugbele Okwu, has been confirmed to have raped a girl under 12 years old, a junior secondary school student and daughter of his neighbor, Mr. Anyaehie, according to a trusted community leader. Anyadike lured the girl to an uncompleted building along Ukwu Orji Anyaike as she returned from school, instructing her friends to go ahead, claiming he needed her help to carry items to his house.
The girl, who regarded Anyadike as a grandfather figure commonly called “Mpa” in the community, followed him. He forced her into a toilet within the building, removed her underwear, and raped her. Anyadike threatened to kill her if she disclosed the assault. Residents near the building heard the girl’s cries, caught him in the act, and alerted authorities before the girl’s father was informed.
The incident has sparked outrage in Ugbele community , as both the perpetrator and the victim hail from the same clan, making the act a cultural taboo requiring traditional land cleansing.
Reports indicate Anyadike’s children are attempting to bribe the girl’s father to suppress the case and keep it out of the public eye. Authorities are investigating, and the community awaits further developments.
