A recent surge in armed robberies has left Umuaka residents shaken. According to a correspondence speaking to Umuaka News24, the rate of increased robberies in Umuaka has been alarming, with motorcycle-riding criminals targeting individuals, especially around UBA Umuaka roads and Amiyi Umuaka roads, after 6pm daily when it’s getting dark.
The robbers, armed with guns, steal phones, money, gadgets and electronic devices from their victims leaving many traumatised.
The correspondent lamented the lack of discussion about this issue on the Umuaka People’s Assembly platform, which is the biggest platform in Umuaka.
He stressed Furthermore, that the recent sand filling on some of the roads, initiated by the Honourable member representing Njaba constituency, has not been leveled, slowing down traffic and making residents more vulnerable to these attacks.
Umuaka News24 urges the police and local authorities to take immediate action to protect lives and property in Akaland. Additionally, the news outlet calls on Ezengwori and Etiokwe Njaba to deploy tractors and caterpillars to level the sand on the roads, ensuring smooth movement and reducing the risk of robbery. This appeal comes amid the community’s ongoing struggles, including a power outage caused by transformer theft that has plunged the entire Umuaka into total darkness for over a week.
