A recent investigation by Umuaka News24 has shed new light on the encroachment issue at Girls Secondary Technical School Umuaka.

Contrary to initial reports, the principal has been exonerated and the blame lies with two teachers, Mrs. C.A. Obilo and Mrs I.M. Onuigbo a teacher from Achara Umuaka who allegedly converted parts of the school’s field into cassava farms without the principal’s knowledge or permission.

It was also gathered that the school currently lacks a functional PTA association due to apparent dispute between the principal and Chief Nickolas Opara which led to Chief Nicolas refusing to do an official leadership handover when his tenure ended.

Since our last publication, the erring teachers have reportedly made some attempts to restore the cultivated areas, leveling some parts of the sports field. And also today, Umuaka youths reportedly went to work there and uprooted planted crops and leveled the area.

The school administration and stakeholders must work together to fully restore the encroached lands especially the staff residence and around dormitories. They must ensure the school’s facilities are properly maintained.

Additionally, resolving the PTA leadership dispute is important for the school’s progress.

It’s noteworthy that the Principal after several attempts to get the previous Chairman from Obeakpu to hand over, the school decided to appoint a temporary Acting PTA leader from Amiyi.
