A disturbing incident has rocked St. Saviour’s Secondary School in Amiyi Umuaka, as a teacher’s excessive corporal punishment left a teenager in a coma.
Ozioma, a student, was allegedly flogged and kicked mercilessly, lying unconscious on the floor for over 5 hours before being rushed to the hospital by her sibling without the care and support of the Rev. father (name withheld).
This shocking event has raised concerns about the culture of brutality and impunity in the school.
Eyewitnesses report that the teacher showed no remorse, failing to visit the student or offer support to the family until the news leaked to the public.
In a similar incident, a teacher named Pascal from the same school was accused of inflicting 54 lashes on multiple students as punishment.
The Umuaka Leadership, School PTA, and government authorities must launch an immediate investigation into these alarming incidents to prevent further abuse and potential loss of life.
As at the time of filing the news, the parents of the child who spoke to our news correspondents calmed down the tension, stating that they would like the case closed as they have already reconciled with the Rev. Father who has really shown support and concern towards their child. They further explained that they have had a wonderful relationship with the Rev. father for years and can testify that he is a good person and may have acted out of mistake. They begged that Umuaka news24 close the investigation and allow the family to handle everything harmoniously.
The said student is still in the hospital at Friendship hospital but has started talking, responding to people.
