Sequel to the interview with Umuaka News24, the former Mayor of Akah City, Hon. Ngozi Obiefule, has insisted that she has nothing to hide about her involvement in the redevelopment of Afor Umuaka project.
According to Hon. Ngozi Obiefule, she used 19 Million Naira of her personal money to start building Afor Umuaka before Eze Mike Nnaka got involved.
She had built 7 blocks to decking level and foundations for some others. The erected structures had to be demolished because they were considered too big. A Bill of Quantities was used to evaluate her financial commitments and establish the cost of what was already on ground. Out of the 19 million, 3 million is still owed to her till date.
Chief Eddy Ikwubuo was given contract for the foundation as a contractor and was owed but later paid.
The shops at Afor Umuaka were built solid with beams deep down its foundations to make them strong.
There was an account opened for the project that is verifiable. Hon Uju, the member that was representing Njaba by 2015 was given a record of it.
Hon. Ngozi Obiefule said that from 2015 when she went to the Imo State House of Assembly to represent her constituency of Isu, she had no active role in the Afor Umuaka project and shop owners led by Uzoma Achazie, along with His Royal Highness Eze Ojinnaka, took over the construction.
The delays in completing the project was also partly due to Hon. Bon Nnaka shenanigans and other issues that were emanating from individuals with selfish interests.
At one point, HRH Eze Ojinnaka and Chief Uzoma Achazie were arrested and taken to zone 9 and Abuja.
Hon. Ngozi Obiefule said that she had to speak with the DIG of police with the help of the then Imo State deputy governor, Eze Mmadumere, to get them released.
Hon. Ngozi Obiefule said that even while not active in the market development from 2015 after being elected to the House of Assembly, she still got involved to rescue the market team each time they got into trouble in order not to impede the project and make sure that it was completed.
“If not for Chief Uzoma, Eze Ojinnaka and the market committee, I personally never intended to destroy the place of Eziekwu but only wanted to build a see-through short fence around it to preserve its domain. I really wanted it to be a sort of public attraction. It was not my idea to eliminate the site”, Hon. Ngozi Obiefule stated.
Afor Umuaka was not the only market that Hon. Ngozi Obiefule built.
She built a market at Avu in Owerri. She constructed the Building Market at Orlu. She built the Electronic Market at Orlu. She also built a Motor Park at Isu.
Hon. Ngozi Obiefuna as well wanted to build a market for selling yams at Ugbele but Eze Akpaka of Ugbele was unable to secure land for the project.
She also made efforts to develop the football field at Umuaka Central school to a stadium but the plan didn’t materialise.
Hon. Ngozi Obiefule insists that if Umuaka wants to ask her any question about her role while she served the town, that a delegation should be constituted to book an appointment for a meeting with her. That she is ready to provide whatever explanation that is required once and for all.
