Nze Duruahiabuo Ojionyeaka of Amakor recently stated that Ibele has always been the traditional head of Amazano on cultural practices such as Nze na Ozo titles, which are the customs that is foundation of the union of the four clans that make up Amazano.

This narrative is consistent with history, and many customary practices and traditional relics attest to the story, even today.

The problem is that the section of Ibele that introduced the Nze na Ozo ordinance are verifiably not the first settlers in the area and Umuele has always had issues with the imposition of that order.

After Amazano acquired the Njaba deity for itself, Umuele assumed a leadership position in the Amazano union as the custodian of its ofor, and Ibele is the only community in the union that do not have access to the river.

While Ibele remained the cultural centre of Amazano, Umuele took over the headship by virtue of holding the ofor of its Njaba deity.

It should be recalled that Umuaka and Amazano were distinct entities and had different deities.

Umuaka have EZIEKWU AFOR while Amazano have Njaba.

Umuele always argued that the section of Ibele that introduced the Nze na Ozo ordinance were latter settlers in the area and should not use that to assume first position in the union even though the practice is the prominent factor that united the clans.

This inconsistency made the positions of Ibele and Umuele to be changing intermittently throughout record history of the Amazano union depending on occasion, and the disparity always caused controversy between the two communities.
